Starbucks, now a global coffee giant, had humble beginnings in Seattle, Washington. Founded in 1971 by Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl, and Gordon Bowker, the initial concept was inspired by Alfred Peet's coffee roasting techniques. The first Starbucks store, located near Pike Place Market, quickly gained popularity for its high-quality coffee beans and expertise in roasting. In 1982, Howard Schultz, captivated by the Italian coffeehouse culture, joined Starbucks as Director of Retail Operations and Marketing. After a trip to Italy, Schultz envisioned transforming Starbucks into a community gathering place, serving espresso beverages alongside whole-bean coffees. Despite initial resistance, Schultz's vision prevailed, leading to the opening of Starbucks' first espresso bar in 1984. The company expanded rapidly throughout the 1990s, going public in 1992 and opening stores across the United States and later worldwide. Today, Starbucks is synonymous with premium coffee experiences, boasting thousands of stores globally and a diverse menu of beverages and snacks.
